I know what you mean about wasting money on lipstick. They're very expensive too! I found a perfect color for me. It's Revlon #125 Nude Velvet. It's in a black tube and the top of the tube is clear so that you can see the color inside.
I am blonde but honestly I think the reason this color works for me has less to do with my hair color and more to do with the shade of my skin. It perfectly compliments my skin tone.
I think you can go to like a Carson's or a store similar to that and try out all kinds of different shades for free. When you hit on the right one, believe me, you'll know it right away. Good luck.
I love L'oreal Endless in In the Buff. It is the perfect matte nude shade. I find that its hard to find a nude lipstick that isn't frosted. This one looks natural and especially good when paired with a nude or coffee lipliner. Sometimes I will put a gloss over it to but it doesn't need it. Its great when you do a smokey eye too. It runs about $7.49 and I find its as good a quality and long wearing as the premium brands

I love Clinique Waterviolet! (#32) I think its perfect..its not over the top at all..it just gives my lips just a touch of color and sparkle. (I have blonde hair and blue eyes.) You have no idea how many foul things I would like to say about cosmetics companies discontinuing my favorite lipstick colors. I am really still looking for a replacement for the one Loreal quit making on me about 10 years ago. I have it replaced, but I feel like it's just the closest thing instead of the right thing. Grrrrrr!!!!!!
And what really angers me about that one is that I KNOW it was hugely popular because I wore it for years and always had to go to multiple stores just to find it, as they were always sold out of that one color.Are you tired of your favorite lipstick always becoming obsolete?
OMG! I am so glad to hear that other people have this problem! With me, it was eyeliner! I used to wear this black eyeliner from Jordana called Color Xtend in Black Out. It was the blackest eyeliner ever and was waterproof...plus really cheap, 2 for $5. Then they discontinued it!!!! It was better than MAC's waterproof eyeliner and much cheaper...still upset about this as you can tell! LOL
No, because that is not part of my life, BUT, what I DO find discouraging, is some product I like being discontinued/ become obsolete after I try it and like it a lot !!! so, it is the same scenario, but, it has happened to different products, from BBQ sauce to shaving cream so frequently in the past decade, that I will buy two or three extra if I find something I really like....it is all about sales I suppose...... good luck little missy....what's for lunch? You might want to look into Bobbi Brown cosmetics, I have never used them, but she claims that she never discontinues colors - so if you're looking for consistency they're definitely the brand to look towards.
Also, with MAC, a lot of the main line colors that are more popular (reds and neutrals) are at pretty much NO risk of ever being discontinued - this includes all of their Viva Glam line.

I prefer lip gloss - it gives a shimmery, sheer coating that is more refreshing to the lips. The shine is nice and attention-grabbing and flatters the lips. Of course, you have to pick the right color for your skin tone - I prefer more pink or earthy tones as opposed to brights, it appears more natural. You should also change your makeup colors depending on what you are wearing...
One of my favorite lip glosses is Venom by DuWop, you can buy it at Nordstrom.
Also at Nordstrom, they can sometimes give you free consultations and help you decide which colors/products are right for you. Sometimes they are busy and you need to schedule an appointment, but usually they can help you on a walk-in basis.What is your favorite lipstick and color?

They have top coat lipsticks that will keep your color in place. Also if you get one of the long lasting lipsticks-It'll stay on all day. Some do flake but there are a bunch of great ones out there. Everyone is different. Only way to find out is try a few different color stay lipsticks in your shade. You can find a lipstick that you can't wipe off without a oil based remover and so on. They cost about 10 bucks but so worth it. Good Luck with that! I stick with the long lasting lipsticks. Can't do the others-they bother me too.
Find a matching shade in the continuous wear formula of the brand you buy. Covergirl is good; that's what we always used for drama club in high school because it wouldn't budge so the guys couldn't wipe it off between entrances. I just wear clear lip balm instead of lipstick unless I'm looking really pale and need the color. I use Burt's Bees so it smells good and tastes good, plus it tingles when you kiss someone after you put it on. The best part is, my lips look so good that I don't need any lip color!
